Cuddley Bears show they care

Bingo was out and about today with Alderman Grant Twigg, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Waste Management. Together they joined staff and children at the Cuddley Bears ECD centre in Kraaifontein to commend the children and shine a light on their efforts to clean up their community.
As part of the City's #SpringCleanCT campaign, we are challenging residents to get out there and lend a hand in cleaning their areas.
The City's cleansing teams are working hard to try and keep up with the problem of littering, but there simply aren't enough staff available. Complacence in many communities has caused people to become brazen, littering and dumping habitually, in full public view. This needs to change and community clean-ups are one way to start.
'If we can get communities invested in their areas again through supporting community clean-ups, hopefully residents will also start working with authorities to bring the people who litter and dump to justice. There are currently rewards on offer for illegal dumping tip-offs that lead to convictions.
'It is so inspiring to see the staff and kids here at Cuddley Bears take a stand against what may seem like an overwhelming problem. I want to challenge others to follow their example. If all of the good citizens of Cape Town come together around this, we can really create a cleaner, brighter future for the next generation,' said Alderman Twigg.

Residents are encouraged to use the 24-hour toll-free number (0800 110077) for illegal dumping tip-offs. If your tip-off leads to a conviction you will be eligible for a reward.
